Husbands were left to fend for themselves this weekend as the Courchesne boys and I, my sister Meghan and her kids, and the cousins’ joint Nani all took off for a weekend getaway to a not-so-exotic location. We booked an entirely nondescript hotel (with indoor pool) along Route 1, and planned a Boston day trip. Geeked out for American history, we toured the U.S.S. Constitution in Charlestown, and the adjacent, though unaffiliated, U.S.S. Constitution Museum. Tours of the ship are free, and the Museum requests a modest, and voluntary, donation. All in all, it makes for a cheap day’s entertainment. The Museum is very kid friendly, and we highly recommend it.
Malcolm was pleased to discover that children as young as six were employed on Old Ironsides, running ammunition and gunpowder to the cannon. As evidenced by this video, he began practicing for his chosen career immediately.
We proceeded to luncheon at Figs, just a short walk away. Delicious food, and the children were well mannered and comported themselves with dignity.
